Psychotherapy is a general term used to describe the process involved in the treatment of a range of mental health problems. It is based on a talk-therapy method, involving evidence-based strategies and tools. There are different approaches to Psychotherapy including, psychoanalysis, behaviour therapy, cognitive therapy, humanistic therapy, and integrative / holistic therapy. It is essentially based on the interaction between the therapist and the patient with the aim of helping the patient change any undesired negative emotions, behaviours or thoughts that are affecting their lives.

Psychotherapies have been used in the successful treatment of trauma, loss, depression, anxiety, and a range of other mental health problems. It can be used in combination with other therapeutic approaches or medication.

Research shows that participants in psychotherapy experience an elimination or decrease in their problematic symptoms and an increase in positive emotions, behaviours, and thoughts.
